New York! Wow, you are my city of choice. There’s something about you that just lights my soul. Thanks for having us!
Now that I’ve professed my love for this amazing city let’s take a step back and relive the shortest (but longest) 2 full days in the city that never sleeps.
First, we got into NYC around 11:45pm but by the time we got to our hotel it was almost 1am. I will spare you the details but let’s say there was a hotel snafu and we ended up in the wrong room, wrong hotel and with the wrong attitude. It was a cute lobby… moving on.
Woke up, still in the wrong room, but made the most of the cold, rainy morning and got up and explored around. We were literally a block from Broadway and two blocks from Time Square and it made my heart happy.
The purpose of our trip was to visit my Aunt June who’s a young 93 and still as interesting and extraordinary as ever. We decided to take the train to her place and Grand Central Station was every bit as cool as it should be.
I mean look at that ceiling detail!
We arrived just after lunch and Aunt June was waiting ever so patiently for our visit. We laughed, we toured her facility and we learned so much about anything she wanted to talk about. Matt and the kids met her for the first time and she was by far the most smitten by Matt. He has a way with these older ladies, I tell you!
We made our way back to New York and were finally in our right room! Again, long story. The bathroom had killer light and my models are always ready for a photo shoot!
The views in the room were also much better.
Day 2
Woke up, and explored. A lot. Plus – it was 20 degrees warmer and no rain. Winning! Broadway, Time Square, St Patrick’s Cathedral…
The new years eve ball is still there! Like seriously, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
When you see Saks on 5th for real…
We even lit a candle for four special people/fur kids in our life: Christina, Chris, Great Grandpa, and Maggie.
Rockefeller, NBC studios, Lillian seeing her “Friends”, Love Statue, Central Park…
and Carnegie Hall. Christina performed there with the Tampa Bay Children’s Choir and we made sure to remember that she was there and still with us.
99 cent pizza anyone? Yeah, you should want it. It was delicious. 5 stars all around!
Then off to the subway for Chinatown and Little Italy. Pretty epic. **The kids decided the subway was not for them so we took a Lyft back which meant we got to see a lot of amazing wall art**
Got back to the Bag Pipers and yet another moment to capture these kids being their best selves.
Made it back in time to shower, get snazzy and leave for the Philharmonics. What an amazing show!
You would think we’d be done by now, but NO! We went out and experienced the city at night and even though we traveled through the same streets it was still all new, so bright, fulfilling and super crowded, but all good.
Like I said this city spoke to me. It was a whole lot of people, doing their life and they didn’t care what anyone else was doing. They just did. I’m ready to just be. In this season, this was inspiring. Thank you New York for being you, apologetically, you. Sincerely, your new fan girl.
