Lillian’s 5th field trip was at the Gulf Breeze Zoo. The class was super excited and it really was a great day to go. It wasn’t too hot or cold. It was just right. The best part of that zoo, as I have mentioned before, is the petting zoo portion. That’s where we spent the majority of our time while we were there. The new thing we got to experience this time around was the train trip. There are portions of the zoo you can only see from the train so we got a closer look at the zebras, rhinos, antelopes and gorillas.
The highlight of the entire zoo trip was the gorilla. It had one too many visitors that day and he/she was in a FOUL mood. We rode up to the gorilla breaking branches with it’s foot and the next thing we know the gorilla is boomeranging them to our train! No joke! There is a lake between us and the gorilla and it swung one just right and it hit the train. It was all fun and games until we found out that the branch had broken into many pieces and one of them hit a little girl in the back of the train on her leg. What are the chances that you get hit by a branch that a gorilla swings across a lake. Seriously a story she can tell many times about that battle wound. Nonetheless, the gorilla threw and threw more branches at us until we were out of sight. Something must have truly rubbed it the wrong way. See I told you, it was a pretty memorable part of our trip!
We ended our trip by eating lunch under their pavilion and then headed back to her school. The majority of the class fell asleep on the way back from sheer exhaustion! I would rate this #2 at the most fun with their 1st field trip being my favorite to date. One more left to go on this year so let’s hope it has some good stories to tell too! :)
