Second edition to New England Part I
We couldn’t say good-bye to Boston just yet. We got up and went for another rainy, windy walk to one of their famous bakeries, Mike’s Pastry for breakfast. We got a cannoli, whoopie pie, strawberry cheesecake and Boston cream pie of course! The pastries were awesome except for the cannoli. We apparently think those are disgusting. On our way back we stopped at a local italian deli and got us sandwiches to have later for lunch. The funny thing is, we had to walk right past Paul Revere’s house again! The kids weren’t amused about that realization considering they were so done yesterday when we forced them out again. Oh well. ;)
On the way back we ran into their farmer’s market. I gotta say, this place was legit. So much variation of fruits, veggies and seafood. This would be a weekly staple if I lived here.
We walked through the Boston Holocaust Memorial which was quite moving. Each of the 6 towers represent a concentration camp and from top to bottom have the number tattoos of their victims of the holocaust. Matt and I both walked out with chills.
On the way back we stopped to step foot where the Boston Massacre had taken place about a block from our hotel.
We left Boston, a treasure I tell you, and drove down to Newport, RI to walk The Cliff Walk. This place had views and mansions for days! WOW! What a scene. What’s even cooler is that some of the old estates have been converted to a college, Salve Regina University. Imagine having that view while your getting your education! We went down the 40 step landmark and got up and personal with the waves and cliffs. Super neat! We even saw some brave (crazy?) men surfing!
After all that walking we headed back inland to try a lobster roll. It was OK. Rhode Island likes cold lobster rolls. We were expecting the warm, butter ones from Maine. Oh well. We ended up going to an Irish pub up the street by the car to enjoy a warmer meal experience!
Our time in RI wasn’t long, but it was enough. It was time to start heading to Connecticut. Before we drove to New Haven, we decided to tour Yale and grab some coffee and tea at a local campus coffee shop.
And that’s all I gotta say about Connecticut. Glad it was just a pass through state. Wish we would have kept driving out of it instead of spending the night. Our hotel night was less than ideal. We got up very early and left. Peace out Connecticut. I hope we never meet again.
