Thanksgiving 2011

Wow, can’t believe it’s been 3 years since our last Thanksgiving in Kansas!  Last time we went up we took a road trip but this time, since we now have two munchkins and wanted to spend as much time as we could there, we decided to fly.  This was Natalie’s first trip on a plane and the first one Lillian will actually remember.  We had a very early flight which was wonderful, because even after our layover in Houston we were in Kansas before noon.  So much better than the 14 or so hours it would have taken in the car!

The kids did really well on the flights, which was very nice since no parent wants to have that kid on a flight.  We were greeted in Kansas by Matt’s parents and Emily and with a short trip to the house we met up with Sam, and Matt’s sister Melissae’s family.  We said our hellos and headed to what I believe is the most amazing Greek restaurant for gyros.  I’ve never had a gyro that good before, they definitely got it right there!  Then we stopped at the Matt Ross Community Center.  Yup, that’s right, the Matt Ross Community Center.  We had to stop and get Matt’s picture, because it was awesome!

That night we headed to Chuck E. Cheese for some pizza and games.  The kids were stoked!  Lillian, Natalie, Hunter and Katherine played to their hearts content while we waited for Juilus, Emily’s boyfriend, to get home from the Naval Academy.

Thanksgiving Day Matt and I spent the majority of our day in the kitchen helping Matt’s mom cook!  It was nice to get some good quality time chit chatting and making delicious food.  The day after we headed to go see The Muppet Movie and of course it was a big hit with all of us.

Saturday Melissae, mom and I went shopping until we dropped before Melissae and her family headed back to Colorado.

Sunday we had a yummy breakfast in downtown Leavenworth and I spent some time taking Emily’s senior pictures before we all went to Culver’s for some good butter burgers and then to Cabela’s to look around.  When we got home it was time to pack and get ready for our journey home.

Once again we had an early flight but this time we went on three planes and I think two is the limit for a 5 year and 20 month old!  Wow, we became those parents on the last plane but alas we got home with no delays. I think we were all just exhausted from the last few days.  Our Thanksgiving was pretty awesome and it’s always nice to have family around and spend some good quality time with the Ross and Andersen household!  Look forward to it again in 3 years!
