Pergola

Little did we know that just shy of the one year anniversary we got the gazebo for our yard (post on gazebo can be found here) that we would have a crazy storm and it would rip it all up!  We got home one night after visiting Matt’s family at the condo, went to take the dogs out and saw the gazebo.  I just stared in awe.  The canvas was completely ripped, the support beams for the roof were bent and had we not had one end bolted to the slab, it would have blown across our yard.  Luckily our chandelier made it through the storm!

We looked online to get a new one but seeing how we didn’t want to keep buying one each time a storm like that came, we decided to build something that would be more permanent, hence the pergola!  We spent most of a Saturday tearing down the remains of the gazebo and then Matt and his brother Sam went to Lowes to buy the materials we needed for the pergola.  We put the beams and cross beams up and then let it set overnight.

Sunday Matt, Sam and Matt’s dad worked on putting up the rest of the boards. We finished the project over 2 weekends.  We still want to stain it the color of our privacy fence and put a more permanent cover on the roof (yes we had another crazy storm and the canvas top, blew off!) but for now, it works as it is
