A few weeks ago (while we were still tiling the house) we bought some redwood planks from a guy on Craigslist and told Lillian they were going to become a sandbox.
With a few other supplies, they are now a sandbox! Here’s what we started the project with; wood, sand, landscape fabric and a lot of glue (ignore the bolts, we didn’t use them).
Then we laid the first level of planks and put down the landscape fabric (there was just enough).
After that it was just a bunch of layers with little support pieces, including an extended section for a step. Here’s how it looked after we had built it up a bit.
After we had built it high enough, we cut a few planks to make the top even all the way around, and a few more to line the interior (so the sand will actually stay in the sandbox). Here’s the completed sandbox, prior to the addition of sand:
And here’s how it looks with sand and some toys in it:
From the other side, you can see the built-in step too:
Of course, the whole point of this was to make something Lillian would enjoy for years to come. Once she woke up from her nap, she got to come outside and see the new sandbox. I think she likes it, but I could be wrong. ;)
