First of all, the only way I was even able to get myself a Nintendo Wii was because I did some freelance programming for my boss. I made him a Microsoft Access database program for the defense of his Doctoral Dissertation. Short version, I spent several hours on it, and made enough to get a Wii.
Actually finding one was the hard part.
Basically, I spent about a week checking online listings and calling stores daily. I finally found out that the GameStop in Santa Rosa Mall was supposed to be getting some in this past Friday. I called them around 2:45pm and was told to call back shortly after 3pm as they should receive their shipment by then, and they expected some Wiis to come in.
Well, I tried calling them at 3:11pm. I remember the time very clearly since the phone was busy. I continued calling them until about 3:35pm and the phone was busy every single time. I got off work at 3:30, so the last five minutes of calling were done while I was driving to the mall (it’s right by my work). When I made it to the store, I found out that their phones were down for some reason. That was fine with me, since it meant no one could call in and have them held back!
So anyway, they had about a dozen in stock and I bought one of them! It’s a lot of fun, even if all I have right now is the Wii Sports disc that comes with it. I have a GameFly membership though, so I’m adding Wii games to my queue!
I’ve already made Miis for everyone here (me, Barbara, and Lillian – they don’t have puppy Miis, so no Maggie), and I’ve played a little bowling. Really, I’ve spent most of my time messing around with all the ‘channels’ on the Wii. I even bought the NES game Kirby’s Adventure out of nostalgia and have played it a bit.
It’s definitely a fun system to play games on, and I’m looking forward to getting more games to play!
