We left Milwaukee and headed to Chicago. My dad was a huge Chicago Cubs fan, which has rubbed off on the fam. It’s the only baseball team that matters. :) Chicago feels like it’s stuck in time. Driving through the old neighborhoods feels like a late 1970s, early 1980s movie. Our first stop was the Wrigley Field.
Disclaimer: Chicago is going through some remodeling and all the things we wanted to see were semi-obstructed by fences and big equipment. Not ideal, but it does give us a reason to go back there and see Chicago again with fresh eyes.
We walked around the stadium, went to a souvenir shop, and had a quick pub meal next to the stadium. Next time we should come during the season and watch them play.
To keep our NHL fans happy, we also went to see the nearby Eagles stadium. The kids had no problem re-enacting the statues at the entrance. We then took a detour to Portillo’s to try a Chicago dog and Italian beef. Did not disappoint!
Once we got to the hotel, we parked the car and went out on foot. Got to see the Bean, sort of, Buckingham Fountain, and walked Millennium Park. We were going to do another day in Chicago on the tail of our trip so we didn’t overdo it our first day.
We had another live performance lined up that evening and seeing how awesome the Milwaukee one was we were stoked! The theater was breathtaking and we had our own private booth. However, the awesomeness ended there. The dance performance was extremely meh. It was an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland and they took some liberties to make it just odd, a bit repetitive. Like you were on a bad acid trip. The kids were like What is this?
