Family Day #1 for 2011

Matt and I decided this year that we would make a conscious effort to get out of the house and do something fun as a family at least once a month.  Much too often, we get caught up in the errands and things we need to do to make the coming week easier that we don’t make time for fun things.  This year it’s time to change that!  For January we chose to go to the Emerald Coast Science Center, spend some good playing time at the park next door and then we went to a little lunch-only restaurant right on the Main Street strip.  The whole day turned out to be a lot of fun and it was nice to get out of the house and enjoy some family activities.

We got to the EC Science Center right when they opened and we were able to take our time through the different stations and try them out.  I think Lillian’s favorite parts were when she flew a miniature plane and then when she got to play in the giant bubble bin and make ridiculously huge bubbles! Matt even made one that went over Lillian and encompassed her in a bubble.  I have to admit I was even having fun!  I’m not much about science.  It was probably my least favorite subject in school but the EC Science Center did a great job of setting up the stations in a fun and interesting way.  So that means two things – 1 – I’m starting to appreciate science a little more now that I can see the wonder and questions through Lillian’s eyes or 2 – my teachers in school did not do a great job of presenting science as fun.  I’m guessing it’s a combination of the two!

Here are a few pictures from our trip:

Of course Lillian got to get a special toy to remember her time there and this is what she chose.

As you can tell she had a lot of fun!

Now, Natalie didn’t really get to partake too much at the EC Science Center but she had her fun at the park!  She was having such a great time investigating the grass, watching everyone play and of course eating her puffs!
