Natalie got her permit! True to Texas form, we had to drive way out of our way to make it happen near her birthday. Almost an hour each direction took us to Stephenville, where we found the smallest driver’s license office we had ever seen. On the way there, Natalie kept saying, “There’s no way we’re going to see a town in five miles.” But sure enough, there it was. Of course, we had to take a picture in front of the sign because nobody would believe how small it was.
The office itself could maybe hold twenty people, workers included, and had the biggest office chairs I have ever seen. They were so round I had to laugh. Even though the trip was long and the building tiny, they were incredibly efficient. We were in and out so fast.
On the way there, we passed a barbecue joint with the largest rocking chair out front, so we made the most of our adventure and stopped to eat. It turned out to be such a fun detour. The drive was scenic, the hills a nice change from what we usually see, and the whole day gave me some great quality time with my girl.
One step closer to her real license. I cannot help but wonder where that will take us.
