Matt was feeling better, so we started our drive to Harpers Ferry to check West Virginia off the list. It was just as we anticipated. West Virginia is not exactly a happening state, but it was still worth seeing. Being in the Appalachian mountain foothills gave it an intriguing and almost eerie feel. Lillian was not a fan, but I did not mind a quiet hiking town. Plus! they have a Little House in the town next door. When I mean little, I mean little.
Our first stop was Arlington Cemetery. While this is a landmark for many, it felt more personal for us. We stood quietly, taking it in, and watched the fallen soldier cadence. It was beautiful, silent, and exactly as respectful as it should be.
From there we went to the Marine Corps Monument. Such an iconic site, and even more impressive to see in person.
After that, we checked into our hotel and got ready for an off-Broadway performance of In the Heights. Holy wow, what a show. Fun fact, we later learned that just a few weeks after our visit Lin Manuel Miranda himself showed up to meet the cast. Definitely a highlight.
The next day it was time to make our way back to Baltimore for the trip home. Since the Peabody Library had been closed on our first day, we stopped there before heading to the airport. It was absolutely spectacular and the perfect way to end the trip.
