We did our yearly trip to Montgomery for the 4th of July. We didn’t have the typical fireworks in consideration for the neighbor’s horses. However, we did venture through downtown Montgomery and visited a memorial I had long been awaiting to go to The National Museum of Peace and Justice. This experience was beautiful in it’s memorial but extremely emotional. The way they have honored the individuals that were unrightfully wronged is poetic. There are no words to right this wrong. The pillars tell the story. Each name memorialized. The ridiculous reasons carved, and in our face to show us that we aren’t perfect. Sometimes, even extremely cruel. So many innocent lives lost. So many lives cut short. Our past isn’t beautiful and we need to showcase the ugly to help us not relive the ignorance of our past.
