Seven years in Georgia. Man, what a ride. I have to say this is where our family found itself. We became very much at home in Georgia. We grew, we had some amazing experiences, but we also had a lot of sadness. Life happened there. In July I was presented with an opportunity to take on a bigger role with McKesson. With the support of the fam, I accepted it. I’ve got to say, I would not recommend looking for a home, finding a home, selling a home, driving cross country with 2 kids and 5 animals, and starting a brand new life in a new state and city while still being in a pandemic in 5 short weeks. A 0 out of 10 recommend there. The only caveat the kids put on us for moving was that they wanted to start school in TX on day 1. So we worked towards that goal. It was hard and stressful. Luckily everything worked out and we met our goal.
So, for now, Texas is our home. We haven’t had that love at first sight type of feeling like when we moved to GA. It’s flatter, less green and a lot more “Texas” than we’re used to. However, the biggest plus side is being so close to my brother and his family. The biggest downside is being so far from my mom. That’s an adjustment.
The first 1.5 weeks we were in ‘corporate housing’. Since nobody wanted to take on a family of 4 with 3 fur babies and 2 cats, we got an extended stay hotel. We affectionally called it Schitt’s Creek. Let’s just say, we were beyond ecstatic to move into our new home. A big plus was being able to work from my brother and sister-in-law’s house when the kids started school. About that, funny story; we were actually looking to cities north of Dallas and hadn’t really looked into the city my brother lived in. As the housing market right now is INSANE we expanded our search and found a good match. As we were driving to the house, I literally saw my brother’s street. We pass it and then immediately turn left into our neighborhood. All the house hunting we had done and we ended up buying a house 0.5 miles from them. Wild! The kids go to the same schools, we get to car pool. It’s definitely a big benefit of the move.
We haven’t ventured far yet. We hit up Buc-ee’s (that’s a must here), tried a few restaurants near by to build up our rolodex, and are getting used to seeing pastures as a new normal. ;)
Here’s a few memories of our little adventure!
