8 years now! My parents were able to come this year which made it feel a bit more normal. Bonus of the trip was being able to go down all in one car! As my parents needed to get some things from the base, Matt, the kids and I took some time to explore the Armament Museum. Well, we thought we would be able to explore it but apparently it’s closed for all Federal holidays. Since it was Veteran’s Day, they were closed. Funny how many people came to spend the day remembering our veterans to find the museum closed. The marketer in me feels that’s such a waste of a great opportunity, but whatever. Regardless, we were able to explore outside and they also had a beautiful memorial at the front of the museum with each flag dedicated to a veteran. The girls were asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance before they were given a flag. They both passed! ;)
Extremely touching and a great way to start this trip.
We checked into the hotel early and got settled in. The next day we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise and an early trip to the beach. Not sure why, but the beach has this amazing way to calm the mind and center you. As this place holds many memories, some hard to cope with since we lost Chris, it’s as much a healing vacation as a celebration of remembrance. This is more than just a trip now.
Back to the hotel for some down time before the game
Short trip to the pool for the kids to get their wiggles out. Yes, it was that hot that we could swim outside. The pool is heated but still, not cold at all.
Of course we had our nightly shenanigans. Lots of fun was definitely had and some good stories for sure.
