Goodbye 2013! This is one year I was happy to see end. I’m ready for a fresh start, a new finish line. It wasn’t a bad year, just different. Lots of things outside of our typical routine with the most prominent being Maggie’s death. We spent a large portion of it mourning the loss of Maggie and getting acclimated to our new “us”. It still feels off, but we’re getting there. So goodbye 2013, hello 2014! Looking forward to what you bring!
Let’s focus on the last 24 hrs of 2013.
We definitely made the most out of our last day of 2013! We took a trip to the park, went to lunch and surprised the kids with a movie date to see Frozen! Oh I wish I could have captured the excitement of how happy they were to go see a movie! They hopped, skipped, and ran their way to the ticket counter telling us thank you the whole way. Sweet memories! If you haven’t seen Frozen, definitely go. So pretty to look at. It’s amazing how far they have come with animations!
If that wasn’t enough, we had one more surprise planned! Before we headed home we stopped in the local frozen yogurt shop and met up with our friends for a special treat! I asked the girls to look silly, I got silly.
Once our fun day out was over we headed home for the start of our festivities! We took some family pictures…
then lit some sparklers that the girls quickly ran away from..so Matt had some fun! :) They did however really like their glow bracelets so at least one of the treats was a success!
The girls were going strong until about 9:30 and then Natalie zonked out. Lillian and I kept ourselves entertained by joking on each other and watching the New Years Eve Countdown. She almost didn’t make it. In the home stretch (11:30) so was about out but we weren’t having any of that! We got some energy back in the room, woke up Natalie and got ready for the countdown. At 11:55 we began the FaceTime festivities with my parents and we rang the new year together! Technology is so freaking awesome! I bought jumbo poppers at the store and WHOA! They lived up to their name. Definitely a keeper to add to our traditions!
The girls went to bed at 1am and we cleaned up some of the mess, but as you can see we still had a little bit of aftermath in the am…
My favorite holiday did not disappoint! Only 364 days until we do it again!
