I have a love, hate relationship with pumpkin carving. I love the results, the tasty seeds and the kids get to participate through the whole process. I don’t like how how even with the deluxe pumpkin carving kit, it still takes forever to carve a pumpkin and that once you do you begin the coutdown to a moldy, mildew mess of a pumpkin. With all that said, the pluses outweigh any of the qualms I have.
This year, Lillian chose the design and of course she chose the most intricate, difficult one there was. Matt and I took turns "carving" it and then went to work on a more realistic version of the design so we ended up with a "this looks the most like this picture" design. On the other side of the pumpkin, we went simple and drew a face. I think we both agree, that simple will be our approach next year and leave the mega designs to the experts.
And here is our finished product! Matt put his light board in our pumpkin as our light source, so we had a pretty display of awesome color!
Note from Matt: It’s just a little Arduino circuit with red, green, and blue LEDs that is programmed to cycle through a few colors.
