We had a really good time too! My mom and Lesley planned a surprise welcome home party for Chris. We were able to spend it with a lot of our friends and Lesley’s family so it was nice to get everyone together again. Matt and I were in charge of making the cake, though I can honestly say I had no part in the cake making process this time around. Matt did an awesome job on it. My mom’s directions were to make him a University of Alabama cake and so Mat did that. You can check out the snapshots section to see it.
Since Chris had no idea that there was going to be a party for him, we had a difficult time getting things done since he was staying at my parent’s house too. Luckily for us, Chris is not a morning person so when Matt and I arrived in Montgomery at 6:30am, on Saturday, we had plenty of time to finish up the cake and a couple more things.
Our family friends, Debra, Jake, and their daughter Sydney, were in town for her high school reunion so it was perfect timing to see everyone. Also, a great playmate for Lillian. They are 1 1/2 months apart so they had a great time playing together. Needless to say we had a house full already. We started watching the Alabama game (GO BAMA!) and then people just started to show up. Finally, my mom yelled "Chris, this is all for you! Welcome back!"
We had about 20-30 people which made a good crowd and also different point of views of who was the best college football team. We had Alabama in the living room and Auburn in the game room. Unfortunately, the game room crowd wasn’t as excited about the outcome of their game like Alabama was.
The party wrapped up and mom asked Chris if he had any clue and he said no. We questioned if he didn’t think it was weird that mom had so much food and he said. "well hell, she always makes that much food so I didn’t think anything of it" No one was surprised by his answer. She always overcooks! But Matt and I are not complaining, we have leftovers for the week!
